Last night was the suicide bombing in Manchester, England. On our national media outlets last night, and on the BBC this morning, there was hour after hour of exactly the same coverage, and interview after interview saying the same things. It’s not that there shouldn’t be such coverage, but that it would be best if it did not fill the entire space, and that there was a break between repetitions. But humans are fascinated by these events. It isn’t just ghoulish correspondents that force the coverage on us. The people want it. I think we’ve all recognized the popularity of Horror, more and more graphic as technology advances. This is the human characteristic that terrorism feeds on. This is the thing that those who delight in killing, maiming, and controlling others can count on. If such events were noted, but not dwelled on, I think we would have much less terrorism.
