Democrats don’t defend themselves against absurdities. For example, in 2004, John Kerry did not defend himself against the ridiculous claims of the swift boaters that he didn’t deserve his medals. The result was that a genuine, decorated war hero looked worse than George W. Bush and Dick Cheney, two people who jumped through hoops to stay out of harms way. Now we have attacks on Hillary Clinton for imagined, but not uncovered, actions of the Clinton foundation while she was Secretary of State.
When Colin Powell was Secretary of State, his wife ran their charitable foundation, America’s Promise, which received sizable donations from Ken Lay, the chairman of Enron. We have seen no rebuttal from Democrats, and never any criticism from Republicans, suggesting there was anything wrong with this arrangement. I doubt there was anything wrong with it, yet the media and Republicans continue to dig at the Clinton Foundation like dogs seeking bones.
In parallel with all this digging, there are documented examples, one in Florida and one in Texas, of Donald Trump, through his Trump Foundation, making donations to officials who dropped prosecutions of his “Trump University” against the advice of investigators. He has said, “I give to everybody. When they call, I give. And you know what? When I need something from them, two years later, three years later, I call them, and they are there for me.” I haven’t seen the media pick up on this. Certainly, Democrats wouldn’t be so impolite.
